The Faculty of Science (Science Club) at Sri Bhagawan Mahaveer Jain First Grade College organized a grand celebration for National Science Day 2026. The event commemorated the discovery of the Raman Effect and highlighted the crucial role of women in shaping a developed India (Viksit Bharat); approximately 200 students from the BSc and BCA programs, along with faculty members, were present.

1. Address by Chief Guest: Dr. Rekha Sethi (Principal, SBMJC)
Dr. Rekha Sethi inaugurated the session by highlighting that science is the “heartbeat of human progress.” She emphasized that the vision of Viksit Bharat is incomplete without the active leadership of women in STEM. She cited modern icons like Ritu Karidhal (Rocket Woman of India) and Tessy Thomas (Missile Woman) as inspirations for the students.
2. Speech by HOD of Physics Mr. A kalai Chalvan
The HODof Physics Mr. A kalai Chalvan addressed the gathering on the historical significance of the day, reflecting on Sir C.V. Raman’s Nobel-winning discovery in 1928. They spoke about how “scientific temper” is not just for labs but a way of life that involves logical reasoning and evidence-based thinking, essential for national development.
3. Speech by HOD of Biochemistry Dr. Roseline
The HOD of Biochemistry Dr. Roseline focused on the future, discussing how interdisciplinary research in AI, renewable energy, and biotechnology can solve real-world problems like climate change. They encouraged students to transition from being “technology consumers” to “technology creators” to ensure India’s technological sovereignty.

Poster Presentation: Students created visual displays on the theme of women’s contributions to ISRO and global science.
Conclusion
The program concluded with a vote of thanks and the National Anthem. The event successfully fostered a spirit of inquiry and reaffirmed the college’s commitment to nurturing the next generation of scientists.
