The Eco Club of SBMJFGC, KGF organized Plantation Drive in association with forest department, KGF taluk, Kolar District to observe World Environment Day on 5th June 2026 at A. Mothakapalli, Kyasamballi, KGF Taluk. Members of Eco Club actively participated in the plantation drive.
250 students and 5 faculty members participated in the drive to bring an awareness to combat climate change and expanding green cover. Students also visited solar panels and gained knowledge on the solar energy and its advantages in reducing carbon emissions and lower utility bills.
Eco Club SBMJC, KGF observed world soil day on 5th December 2025. The theme is “Healthy soils for healthy cities”.
Soil Testing Drive
In order to bring an awareness among the youth, the Club organized soil test drive. The soil samples were collected from agricultural field, Cyanide dumps, Park, construction area, In house garden of SBMJC, KGF.
The students Checked the pH, colour and texture of the soil. The pH ranged from slightly acidic to neutral. The soils collected from agricultural field and in house garden showed neutral pH. Agricultural soil and in-house plants pot soil is identified as black in color due to the presence of organic mannure which is suitable for plants growth.
Model making competition*
30 students actively participated in Model Making (clay) Competition. Students prepared and displayed eco friendly utensils, biological systems and sports items. This competition brings an awareness on the importance of soil in our day to day life and an alternative for the usage of plastic products.
Eco club organized field visit at Bodenahalli from 10th November 2025 to 17th November 2025. 20 students and 2 faculty members actively participated to bring an awareness on chemical fertilizers, pollution , organic farming and drip irrigation for the farmers.
Impacts
– Health Risks: Respiratory issues, cancers from pesticide residues in food/water.
– Soil Degradation: Loss of nutrients, reduced fertility, harms earthworms.
The Eco Club members interacted with farmers and discussed about the chemical fertilizers, pesticides and their impacts on human health.
DAY 2
13/11/2025
After harvest, farmers often burn leftover straw, releasing toxic smoke (particulate matter, CO₂, methane) that worsens air pollution, This practice harms health, reduces soil fertility, and kills beneficial insects.
DAY 3
14/11/2025
Fertilizers (urea) and pesticides boost yields but contaminate soil, groundwater, and harm biodiversity. Excess nitrates leach into water, causing “blue baby syndrome” and killing aquatic life.
DAY 4
15/11/2025
Paddy needs lots of water and straining groundwater.
DAY 5
17/11/2025 Flooded fields emit methane, a potent greenhouse gas, contributing to climate change.
Eco club organized field visit to Park at King George Hall, Robertsonpet, KGF on 29th November 2025 . Identified plant species, discussed about its adoptions and focused on garbages in the park. This activity created awareness on the plants diversity and impacts of garbage.
40 students and 2 faculty members actively participated.
