“Mental Health Issues – Depression” 

Counseling Centre in Association with IQAC organized workshop on the theme of “Mental Health Issues – Depression”, for all the First Year Degree  Students on   27th April  2026 in the Auditorium.

The Resource Person Ms. Shwetha Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology, GFGC, KGF delivered a wonderful message on “Depression”, Mr. Babu Office Superintend SBMJC, KGF, Mr. Praveen SWC Officer SBMJC, KGF, Dr. L. Jayapandian IQAC Co-Ordinator SBMJC, KGF and Faculty Members were present.

Meaning of Mental Health:

  • It is a sound condition of the mind or psychologically well-being and free from mental disease.
  • Mental health refers to our emotional, psychological, and social well-being.
  • It affects how we think, feel, and behave.

Meaning of Depression:

  • Depression is a common mental disorder characterized by sadness loss of interest, feeling of guilt, lack of sleep and poor concentration.
  • It is a mood disorder that cause a strong feeling of sadness and losing of interest.
  • It affects how you feel, think and act.

Suggestions of Depression: Depression is treatable. Common treatments include:

1 Psychotherapy (Talk Therapy):   Counselling with a trained mental health professional.  Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) helps change negative thinking patterns.

2 Meditation:       Help balance brain chemicals (like serotonin).        Do not stop medication without medical guidance.

3 Social Support:          Talking to family and trusted friends.       Joining support groups.

4 Stress Management: Meditation and deep breathing exercises. Yoga and relaxation techniques.
