“COMMERCE MELA” 2.O

Event Overview

The Department of Commerce organized a one-day institutional event titled “Commerce Mela” 2.O on 06 May 2026  at Conference Hall with the objective of fostering entrepreneurial competencies and experiential learning among students. The event served as a practical platform for students to translate theoretical concepts of commerce, marketing, accounting, and finance into operational business models.

The programme encouraged innovation, teamwork, business communication, and financial management through real-time entrepreneurial exposure.

  3. Mentors: Teaching fraternities from various departments provided academic guidance and supervision to the participating student teams.

 Participant Profile

  • Total Beneficiaries: 300 students across all UG streams
  • Stakeholder Participation: 18 student-managed stalls with representation from local entrepreneurs including sectors such as textiles, jewellery, FMCG, food & beverage, and education services.

Programme Structure & Methodology

The Commerce Mela adopted an “Entrepreneurship Simulation Model” wherein students:

  1. Conceptualized business plans under faculty mentorship
  2. Executed end-to-end business operations including procurement, pricing, branding, sales, and book-keeping
  3. Engaged in real-time customer interaction and financial reconciliation

The Commerce Mela featured active participation from several student-managed enterprises and local business units representing diverse sectors such as textiles, jewellery, food and beverage, and fashion accessories.

“Mental Health Issues – Depression” 

Counseling Centre in Association with IQAC organized workshop on the theme of “Mental Health Issues – Depression”, for all the First Year Degree  Students on   27th April  2026 in the Auditorium.

The Resource Person Ms. Shwetha Assistant Professor, Department of Psychology, GFGC, KGF delivered a wonderful message on “Depression”, Mr. Babu Office Superintend SBMJC, KGF, Mr. Praveen SWC Officer SBMJC, KGF, Dr. L. Jayapandian IQAC Co-Ordinator SBMJC, KGF and Faculty Members were present.

Meaning of Mental Health:

  • It is a sound condition of the mind or psychologically well-being and free from mental disease.
  • Mental health refers to our emotional, psychological, and social well-being.
  • It affects how we think, feel, and behave.

Meaning of Depression:

  • Depression is a common mental disorder characterized by sadness loss of interest, feeling of guilt, lack of sleep and poor concentration.
  • It is a mood disorder that cause a strong feeling of sadness and losing of interest.
  • It affects how you feel, think and act.

Suggestions of Depression: Depression is treatable. Common treatments include:

1 Psychotherapy (Talk Therapy):   Counselling with a trained mental health professional.  Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT) helps change negative thinking patterns.

2 Meditation:       Help balance brain chemicals (like serotonin).        Do not stop medication without medical guidance.

3 Social Support:          Talking to family and trusted friends.       Joining support groups.

4 Stress Management: Meditation and deep breathing exercises. Yoga and relaxation techniques.

Total number of students 120 and 05 Faculty Members were participated.

“AAROGYA SEVA” FREE MEDICAL HEALTH CHECK -UP CAMP

The Student Welfare Council (SWC) of Sri Bhagawan Mahaveer Jain First Grade College, KGF, in association with IQAC and Sri Devaraj Urs Medical College, Tamaka  Kolar, Rotary Kolar Collective Action, Kolar, organized a Free Medical Health Check-up Camp on 30th April 2026  at 11:00 AM.

The primary objective of this health camp was to promote community health awareness and provide accessible healthcare services to students, faculty, and the general public.

Participation:

The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from both the college community and the general public.

List of Specialist Doctors Available:

1. Gynecologist – Women’s health checkups and consultations

2. Orthopedic Specialist – Bone and joint assessments

3. Ophthalmologist (Eye Specialist) – Vision and eye health screening

4. Otolaryngologist (ENT Specialist) – Ear, nose, and throat consultations

5. Dermatologist (Skin Specialist) – Skin care and related issues

6. General Physician – Primary care and general health checkups

7. Surgeon – Consultation on surgical conditions

8. Diabetologist – Diabetes screening and management advice

Free Services Provided:

1. General Health Check-up

2. ECG (Electrocardiogram)

3. Blood Pressure, GRBS (Glucose Random Blood Sugar), and Blood Tests

4. Distribution of Selected Free Medicines

Outcome of the Camp:

A large number of beneficiaries availed themselves of the free services. Many individuals received early diagnosis and medical guidance.  The collaborative efforts of the medical teams and student volunteers ensured smooth coordination and effective service delivery.

Conclusion:

The Free Medical Health Check-up Camp proved to be a significant success in addressing basic healthcare needs and raising health awareness among the community. The Student Welfare Council of SBMJFGC extends heartfelt gratitude to all participating institutions, medical professionals, and volunteers who contributed to the success of the camp.

Alumni Talk  “A Day in My Job Role”

The session created an opportunity for students to connect with a successful alumnus and learn from his journey.

Resource Person

The session was delivered by Mr. Koushik Raj. N, Founder and Chairman of NKR Academy and a proud alumnus of the 2015 batch. He shared his professional journey, highlighting his experiences, struggles, and achievements. His insights into career development, entrepreneurship, and skill enhancement were highly valuable and inspiring.

Session Highlights

During the session, the resource person explained a typical day in his job role, giving students a clear understanding of workplace responsibilities and expectations. He discussed the challenges faced in the corporate world and shared practical strategies to overcome them. He emphasized the importance of communication skills, time management, adaptability, and continuous learning. The session also included an interactive segment where students actively participated and clarified their doubts regarding career paths and professional growth.

The students gained valuable insights into real-world job scenarios and the skills required to excel in their careers. They understood the significance of confidence, professionalism, and a positive attitude in the workplace. The session also motivated them to focus on personal development and prepare themselves for future career opportunities. Also conducted Aptitude and Logical reasoning session.

Conclusion

The Alumni Talk was highly informative, engaging, and beneficial for all the participants. It successfully achieved its objective of providing practical knowledge and inspiring students to work towards their career goals. The session was well received and appreciated by both students and faculty, making it a memorable and impactful event.

AI Powered Industry Readiness and Career Accelerator Program

Introduction

The Student Welfare Council organized “AI Powered Industry Readiness and Career Accelerator Program” for the 2nd Year students. The session aimed to equip students with essential knowledge and skills required to meet modern industry demands, particularly focusing on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and employability enhancement.

The program provided valuable insights into how AI is transforming industries and how students can prepare themselves to build successful careers in an increasingly technology-driven world.

Objectives of the Program

• To create awareness about the role of AI in various industries
• To enhance productivity and employability skills among students
• To understand current recruiter expectations
• To guide students on sustaining and growing in their careers
• To introduce AI-related skills relevant to B.Com, BBA, and BCA students
